just plain “low calorie” diets are bad for you. check out The Rapid Fat Loss Handbook by Lyle McDonald. It’s a Protein Sparing Modified Fast which means that it optimizes fat loss and keeps your lean body mass in place so you remain healthy.
It’s basically lean proteins (meat/fish) and fruit/veg which are available everywhere .
Also, stay away from prepared foods as they are counter-productive and not nutritious at all.
just watch your serving size per meal of meat, chicken and fish.
about the size of a deck of cards is the right serving size
and full fat diary(milk, cheese, and yogurt) should be consumed in small portions. skim milk is a good low cal choice.
usually whatever is the suggested serving size on a package or container of food is the right amount to eat per meal.
fruit and vegi. you can pretty much eat all you care to eat.
ok, in places like tesco and sainsburys you can opt for innocent veg pots (by the same people that make the smoothies), weight watchers ready meals, as well as the stores own healthier brands, such as be good to yourself by sainsburys (and the tesco equivalent.. cant quite recall what its called).. also, soups tend to be low in calories and fill you up so that’s always a good option (though opt for relatively simple, vegetable based soups, cause if you opt for really creamy soups with bacon for example, well that’s got a lot of calories).
rice is actually not that low in calories. to be honest along with fruit and veg you should opt for lean protein, such as fish and chicken or very clean (from fat that is) beef.
other than that always watch the fat content of your food cause that is what essentially builds up calories. like if you are having a salad, don’t put too much olive oil or dressing on it cause you could be looking at 120 calories per tablespoon just for that.
for snacking, other than fruit and veg, you can try rice cakes as they are very low in calories as well.
hope this helps!
